 replanting after hosta virus
One of my hostas was identified as having a virus this summer and I was advised to dig it up and not to replant in that spot. However, I neglected to ask the person how long I need to leave that spot bare. Any advice?

 Re: replanting after hosta virus
Some will go as far as suggesting to not ever put another hosta in that location, but I would think you'd be OK after 2-3 years. Research has shown that HVX can survive in dead roots for 18 months, perhaps longer. It's best to play it safe and plant another species in that spot, such as a Heuchera for example.

 Re: replanting after hosta virus
Thanks for the suggestion for replanting the area...I'd hate to be looking at a bare spot for 2-3 years. There are several other hostas nearby, and I am wondering if the virus will show up on them, but I guess time will tell. Marian
