Jeff, I could probably easily ID a couple dozen types with some accuracy - that would not include the rare cultivars that I've been posting here in this garden tour thread. Some are just about impossible to identify as 'Sleeping Beauty' would be during mid-season. I grow it next to 'First Frost' and after the early season margin color differences, I cannot tell them apart. All of the green/yellow margin types that I have posted in this thread would be difficult for me tell apart. 'Rainbow's End' is easier to ID due to it's stark color contrasts. So would 'Jewel of the Nile' since it has so many leaves that are always vastly different in their variegation patterns. Ventricosa linage plants seem to have a distinct leaf type that helps narrow down some options. Distinctness does not always seem to be a criteria when naming a hosta
