Yea, I used to buy hostas bare root and grow them in pots to sell. Just make sure enough soil to support the roots |

I have some thick roots with smaller roots coming out of them I have had them in water for about a week now and there does to appear to be some growth. |

Quote: I have some thick roots with smaller roots coming out of them There are a relatively small number of hosta that are stoloniferous; they send out horizontal stems from which new independent hosta arise, H.clausa. This is well known but not common with hosta. In tissue culture they work with the crown unless someone is working with root material and haven't published those results. Don't think is will work unless you are dealing with a stoloniferous variety. This is a stoloniferous plant H.'Stilleto'; the crown; on the right with the leaves growing up the stolon; the thick root looking part from which the crown developed the roots; smaller thinner parts |
